Join us for an easy hike at Evergreen Brick Works / Don Valley Brick Works Park!
This is our first SUNSET HIKE of 2024 and we couldn't be more excited.
We will meet at the South Pavillion, near the pollinator garden at 6:45. We are going to walk north from the parking area towards Don Valley Brick Works Park. The trail(s) are all loops, we will meander through looking for points of interest and a good spot to watch the sunset before heading back south to the parking lot. The main trail is about 2.5 km, but we are hoping to explore some of the side trails as well.
As this hike will be at sunset, you may wish to bring a flashlight or headlamp, and be sure to wear safe, comfortable shoes.

What a great day! Had such a blast at Elora Gorge Conservation Area on May 4th, with the biggest turn out for a Chub Rub hike to date! Fourteen hikers embarked on this multi-level hike along the Elora Gorge. The weather cleared up in time to give us warm temps and clear, sunny skies.
We met at the Kay Marsten Pavillion and then hiked through the woods towards the trail head. There were some muddy and slippery spots, but nothing we couldn't handle. We stopped for some photos on the bridge overlooking the gorge and then continued to hike eastward along the south side of the gorge. The trail had lots of ups and downs, tree roots and rocks to climb over. We took our time to make sure we could all continue safely, stopping for water and snack breaks along the way.

The hike continued along the trail towards the "Hole In The Rock", which is a unique rock formation full of natural history and interest. From here, we took a snack and chat break, and then continued down to complete the first leg of the hike. |
|
|
The second leg of the hike was decidedly more challenging, and about half the group decided to continue to the westward length of the trail along the south rim of the gorge. This portion of the trail was definitely less traveled and is not very well marked. We were able to follow a fence for a good portion of it, but we had to make some creative detours to cross over streams and some large rock formations. |
|
|
All of our efforts paid off as we found a spot to walk out towards the Grand River and we spotted the Little Elora Falls. Standing in the bottom of the gorge, surrounded by trees, rocks and waterfalls was an incredible experience.
We finished the hike at the bridge that crossed the gorge, and turned back to hike through the park. Our total distance was just under 6km! Way to go, hikers! |
